The summer is the perfect time for hyper kids. They have few responsibilities during the daytime and most of those responsibilities are at camps and include swimming or playing ball or making crafts. The weather is almost always perfect for them to play outside. They can play in the water and most importantly don’t have to go to school. But how do you focus your hyper child once school starts again? Here are tips on how to calm your hyper child and help them focus on school and the NNAT:
- Do not stress yourself out: Children are great at picking up the emotions of those around them, especially their parents. If you act stressed or super hyper, then your children will pick up on that. Remember to keep yourself calm to help calm your children.
- Make a sleep schedule: It is tempting in the summer to let your children sleep in or stay up late. But these differences in a sleep schedule are not good for children. Stick to their bedtime at night and they should not become over or under rested!
- Try meditation: I know it sounds crazy to try and teach a child meditation, let alone a hyper one, but children will rise to your expectations! Do not try to do an hour-long meditation session the first time. Start with 5 minutes and then slowly increase the time as they are able to sit still through 5-minute meditations.
- Walk it off: Sometimes kids just need to get that extra energy out of them! So have some family time and take a walk together. This will give you some time together without the hassle of driving somewhere, or the nagging of doing homework. A bonus is that it will also help burn off that extra energy!
You can also try yoga to help relax your child. Here is a great yoga video specifically for kids! Good luck on the NNAT!
